Why is Regular Tree Trimming Important?

You probably heard of Tree pruning before, but why is it essential? Most people never would have given this topic much thought. Let's cover this topic more in depth, so if you're ever asked, "Is your backyard safe?" you could confidently answer YES and can explain why.

How Safe is Your Backyard?

Here in East Tennessee, we have BIG trees and a lot of them. It's almost always a good idea to ask an arborist to do the tree trimming professionally, however, if you have the exact knowledge and the required types of equipment, you can do many smaller jobs (smaller trees or less hazardous scenarios) on your own. True, a landscaped yard gives your home a million dollar look, but a safe and well-maintained backyard filled with trees can make it look priceless!

When the weather becomes warm people start spending more time in the backyard. It's marvellous! Summer is the perfect time to celebrate, to enjoy leisure time under the green shades of trees with family and friends. But, what if someone gets hurt from a hazardous tree? Which if it is a child? What could you have done to prevent it?

Well, to an extent, you hold some responsibility to ensure a safer environment for everyone in your garden and property. When it comes to the safety of your loved ones you can not neglect a single sign of danger.

You may go for many lengths to keep your garden safe, such as growing harmless plants, keeping the snakes and other such creatures away from your garden, cutting out the sick trees, building traditional boundaries, etc. Of all of these, one of the most important maintenance tasks you could do to prevent injury is Tree pruning, tree trimming, and heck, even tree shaping.

Tree trimming are the most common tree service requests we get. Not only are they a smart way to ensure your safety, but they also benefit the health of your trees.

Here are specific reasons to regularly maintain your trees:

  • Your trees love a fresh haircut (we call it tree pruning) because it keeps them healthy and reduces the chance of tree collapse. Talk about peace of mind!
  • Your tree will get a more balanced and well-kept appearance, since tree cutting influences the size and height of the tree. Just remove the old, dense branches, and see how wonderful your tree looks!
  • It eliminates the branches that are dead or rotting. This serves as a golden opportunity for your trees to grow healthier and to their full potential.
  • The quality of the flowers and fruits that your trees produce will improve.
  • Pruning promotes branch strength and optimal direction, thus providing you a better-shaded area.
  • Summer pruning of the trees stops disease from spreading. So it not only boosts a tree 's health but also increases its lifespan.
  • Pruning is also important for increasing the penetration of air and light within the tree's crown.

Does your tree needs pruning? Here are some clues:
  • Hanging branches: It can be dangerous to have branches hanging over your home, power lines, over sidewalks, or nearby the road. Rotting or dead branches just need a small gust of wind to come flying down on anything (or anyone) below.
  • Oozing Sap: Some trees are usually seen bleeding in summer. It's not dangerous but it can be rather unpleasant, because sap can get sticky and dirty. Make your backyard beautiful and comfortable by removing those trees.
  • Tangled Branches: When you catch branches intertwined or constantly rubbing each other, or perhaps making a criss-cross pattern, the tree needs to be pruned. This is so because the rubbing branches can damage themselves and weaken the tree. Since tangled branches eliminate air and light interaction it makes the tree more susceptible to disease. You want healthy branches! Healthy branches = stronger branches = less branches at risk of falling below. Keep your trees health in optimal condition by regularly trimming and pruning it. Have some fun with it and make its appearance lovely for everyone to admire.
  • Dead and Decayed Branch: A diseased or decaying branch may be detrimental to a tree's proper growth. It impedes the supply of proper nutrition to the entire tree and weakens it day by day from within. Avoid the risk of dead branches falling below, or worse, your entire tree collapsing, by regular tree maintenance. Should your tree be diseased beyond repair, please call a professional tree service company to have your tree and stump safely removed.

Now that you are aware of what Tree pruning is and why it is necessary, make sure you put that knowledge into action either by doing it yourself (for small trees), or by calling a professional tree care company to take the project on for you.

With that being said, please share this knowledge with others to spread the importance of proper tree care and tree maintenance. Happy trimming!
